Males who want to care for themselves are increasing due to the popularity of the good-looking male image
Beard hair removal and acne scar treatment are popular among young males, while looking-young treatments are popular with middle-aged males
It is good to start taking care of the skin as a prevention before it gets worse

Even a few years ago, only a few males cared for themselves. However, as like appearing 'Men's Grooming,' the interest in male skincare is getting high. There are a lot of males who take care of their skin, so let's learn how they do for their skin and the good way to care for it.

The popular, ideal male style then affects the male aesthetic trend. Unlike in the past, when tough and macho males were popular, males with good-looking styles are popular these days, and males have also become a trend to take care of themselves. In dermatology clinics, there is still a low percentage of male than female patients, however, the number of male patients is increasing continously.

Dr. Won Sin Lee, a founder of Wells Dermatology & Medical Spa, said, "The sex ratio of patients who visit our clinic, in the past, there were less than five males to 100 females, but now there are about ten males to 100 females. In terms of the absolute number of patients, it has increased about ten times compared to 10 years ago."

There are more male patients, their ages vary, and their treatment scope is wider.

Dr. Lee explained, "There were a few male patients who wanted to get an aesthetic treatment. Sometimes, middle-aged males in their 40s and 50s visited my clinic with their wives to eliminate moles around holidays. Some teenage males visited my clinic for acne treatment, but the 20s and 30s male patients are few. Recently, there has been a social atmosphere in which the outlook of the male is a competitive point, and as more males prefer good-looking images, the demand for aesthetic treatment is increasing. Young male patients in their 20s and early 30s often undergo hair removal or treat acne marks, scars, and enlarged pores caused by puberty acne. Males in their 40s and 50s, whose skin becomes rough, loses facial weight, and loses elasticity, often get procedures that can restore volumes, such as Sculptra or filler, or firming and lifting procedures such as Botulinum Toxin and Thermage."

Many males take care of their skin in advance to make their skin better or to prevent it from getting worse, but many males want to start taking care of their skin only after it has deteriorated. Generally, males have thicker skin and more sebaceous glands than females, so it is often thought that males' skin is stronger than females, but this is not necessarily the case.

Males indeed have thick skin and a lot of sebaceous glands, so they don't get wrinkles easily and show signs of slow aging, but once wrinkles form, they settle deeply. Moreover, many males don't use cosmetics or sunscreen, so skin damage from ultraviolet rays and external stimuli often progresses quickly. Frequent shaving can cause fine scars or folliculitis. If it is repeated, it causes inflammation and pigmentation.

Hair removal treatment can be a solution to repetitive shaving wounds and folliculitis. Since the thickness of the beard gets thinner and the rate of beard growth slows down as the procedure is performed, the time and frequency of shaving can be reduced, and concerns about scars, folliculitis, and post-inflammatory pigmentation can be reduced.

Pigment laser treatment is effective when blemishes appear on the skin due to ultraviolet rays. Dr.Won Sin Lee said, "In many cases, pigmentation can be treated with pico-toning alone in females, but it may not be enough because males have more downy or fine hair on their faces than females, so they have to treat while removing hair. In this case, the Clarity Toning procedure is performed at the same time. If you do both together, you can brighten your face and tidy your tone."

In addition, around the mid-40s, due to external stimuli, excessive drinking, smoking, and lack of sleep, the skin begins to age, and the face volume begins to decrease. If rapid changes are a burden due to social life, you can consider Sculptra, which slowly replenishes the volume.

Dr.Won Sin Lee advised, "It is important to start caring for your skin before it gets too bad. Then you can see the full effect without undergoing multiple treatments and management."

Taking care of your skin after it has deteriorated is good, but the first step in skin care is prevention. When doing outdoor activities, apply sunscreen to protect the skin from ultraviolet rays, and when shaving, use an electric razor instead of a razor to reduce irritation to the skin. In addition, if you try to shave your beard closely, it is easy to cause fine scars, so you should refrain from shaving it closely and thoroughly clean your shaving tools.

Dr. Lee emphasized, "There are more and more males who want to take care of it, but most of them approach skin care with the thought of restoring already damaged skin. It can be recovered if you receive consistent treatment and management, but there are limitations, and it takes a long time because it starts in a damaged state. Therefore, it is important to start caring for your skin before it gets too bad. Then you can see the full effect without undergoing multiple treatments and management."

Some males hesitate to care for their skin in a dermatology clinic, but the first time in anything is difficult.

Dr. Lee advised, "There are males who have a hard time seeing a dermatologist, but these days there are many male patients, so it would be nice to have the courage to visit. Even if not often, if you take care of it once in a while, you will be able to have good enough skin."
