Natural and less scarring compared to breast implants
The use of stem cells, stress management, and smoking cessation can increase grafting rate
Breast augmentation is commonly known as inserting an implant inside the breast but if there is a burden of using an implant or skin incision, or if you want a natural look that doesn't look like plastic surgery, you can consider fat transfer to breast using autologous fat.
Fat transfer to breast is a surgery in which unnecessary fat in the body is extracted, refined, and transferred to breast for increasing volume of the breast. Mostly, thigh fat is extracted but if thigh fat is insufficient, abdominal fat is used. Fat transfer to breast surgery not only enlargers the breasts but also removes unnecessary fat to shape the desired body. It is more effective for the person who has thin upper body and fat lower body.
Fat transfer to breast is compared to breast implant surgery. Each has clear advantages and disadvantages. Breast implant surgery may leave scars and may have molded marks because they are the foreign substances. But the volume of breast can definitely increase. On the other hand, fat transfer to breast can not increase the volume of breast much compared to breast implant, but it has less burden on scars and uses autologous fat. It is natural look without any plastic surgery sign.
In some cases, combination of breast implant surgery and fat transfer to breast at the same time. In this method, fat transfer to around the breast implant can alleviate the appearance of the breast implant and reduce the feeling of touching the breast implant when the breast is touched.
The result of fat transfer to breast depends on how much transferred fat is absorbed and engrafted. After fat transferred, capillaries grow and engraft around the area. Usually, 30~40% of the transferred fat is engrafted and the rest is absorbed. If the results of the surgery are not satisfactory, sometimes re-surgery may be performed.
In the process, stem cells are a great help to increase the grafting rate. Using purified and transferred stem cells with fat increases the grafting rate, higher rate compared to fat only transfer. Stem cells secrete growth factors and promote the formation of blood vessels so that fat cells can be well positioned, resulting in a grafting rate of over 60~70%.
Stem cells also reduce the probability of calcification, a typical side effect of fat transfer to breast. Calcification is caused by excessive fat injection, and it is a phenomenon in which dead fat, which has not been engrafted due to lack of blood supply, remains in the body and hardens into a lump. Mixing stem cells properly, there is little chance of side effects even if a large amount fat is transferred. In some cases, PRP (Autologous growth factor) is mixed together with stem cells, and vitamin treatment is performed to remove active oxygen in the body that hinder engraftment.
Postoperative management also has an important effect on grafting rates. When the stress hormone in out body goes up, blood circulation decreases and it interferes with engraftment, so we need to manage stress well and get enough sleep. Smoking causes blood vessels to constrict, so you should stop smoking until engraftment is complete and your breast are stable.
To increase grafting rate is the same as to decrease the absorption rate. Fat is easily absorbed when energy metabolism is high, but if you exercise frequently, such as exercising or dieting, energy metabolism may increase, so it is better not to use your body, especially your arms after surgery. When sleeping, do not lie down and sleep in an upright position so that blood vessels are not compressed and can grow and enter.
Since surgery to deal with fat is difficult, the doctor’s skill is required above all else.
Dr. Young Shin Cho, founder of Young Clinic, said, “When extracting fat, it is important not to break the fat, and when transferring, it is important to put a certain amount of fat evenly. Also, the method of purifying stem cells, mixing method, etc., are important.” She added and emphasized, “There are patients who come to my clinic in a stage of agglomeration of fat due to a wrong surgery. It is better to have a surgery done by a doctor who has a lot of experience in fat transfer.”
When you think about fat transfer to breast, it is more important to increase an ideal breast volume that suits you rather than making your breast bigger. There are several surgery method that increase grafting rate and reduce side effects, but side effects may occur at any time depending on the individual, so it is desirable to proceed with surgery after sufficient consultation with an experienced doctor.
